The AberTM technology is used routinely for monitoring filamentous cells including a wide range of Streptomyces organisms used in anti-biotic production and various fungi. As well as providing a cell growth profile it can provide real time data on morphological changes such as hyphal and filamentous growth, production and lysis during fermentation, which normally could have only been seen by off-line sampling and microscopy.
The data below shows four consecutive runs using the new 25mm AberProbe for monitoring streptomyces from CIPAN SA (Portugal) in a 540L fermenter. (data courtesy of Ana Ferreira, IST, Portugal).
