The Yeast Monitor 730 is the latest on-line brewing instrument available from Aber Instruments. It has been designed for the continuous monitoring of the live yeast cell concentration during fermentation or propagation. The system uses the same proven, capacitance principle used in the Aber Instruments Yeast Monitor 320 and unlike optical sensors it is unresponsive to the varying levels of trub and colour found in different worts.
The standard instrument is built into a stainless steel, IP65 enclosure and has an integral multiplexer allowing an input from up to 4 fermenters. To ensure simplicity of use there are few user setup options and for customers already using the Yeast Monitor 320 for pitching rate control, the calibration factors (eg RCM and SI) can be simply entered from a portable PC. Options for incorporating Profibus communications are available.
The main application for the Model 730 will be fermentation monitoring but additional applications include on-line monitoring of yeast concentrations in transfer lines between fermenters and conditioning tanks.
