The new Aber Futura Biomass Monitor has been designed so that multiple units can easily incorporated into bioreactor controllers and SCADA systems. This is usually done via unique 1, 4 or 8 channel Futura "Connect" hubs that can use USB, 4-20mA or Modbus to provide the interface.
The parallel bioreactor manufacturer DASGIP has been able to integrate their Control Software Platform with Aber Futuras via the "Connect" hub. DASGIP was able to modify their drivers so that they can use the built-in RS-485 connector of their PCS as well as their serial hubs to connect to Aber sensors.
According to , Dr.-Ing. Falk Schneider, Executive Vice President of DASGIP AG:
"The DASGIP Control System provides a seamless integration of the Aber Futura biomass sensor. Each bioreactor can be equipped with an Aber biomass sensor. The Modbus Protocol is supported by the control system thus all sensors can be hooked up to a serial RS-485 connection. The sensor's capacitance and conductance values are monitored and stored along with all other process information in the DASGIP Control System. Therefore the biomass signal can be used for online feedback-control-loops, i.e. to implement user defined feed strategies online. "
