The probe can be installed either directly into the side wall of the cylindraconical vessel above the cone or in a pumped pipe loop that circulates the vessels contents. The output of the vessel will relate to the volume of biomass present around the probe and can be calibrated to any desirable units of mesurement, but commonly in cells/ml. The signal is then fed into a suitable data logging system and data similar to the chart shown will be available for every fermentation.
