Aber is pleased to announce the release of its new AberScan software. The software simplifies the frequency scanning measurements first proposed by Aber in the 1990's.
The AberScan software package can improve the accuracy of the biomass measurement and provides a number of additional parameters that can be linked to critical events during fermentation and cell culture.
By applying frequency scanning on capacitance and conductance values at 25 different frequencies between 0.1 MHz and 20 MHz. the software computes additional process parameters including the dielectric increment, cole-cole alpha (a) and critical or characteristic frequency (fc).
A number of papers have already shown that frequency scanning can be a powerful tool for identifying major transition points in cell culture and fermentation and changes in the cell membrane capacitance. In one study, the changes in cell membrane capacitance appear to be linked with the onset of apoptosis when the cells shrink and the cell membrane undergoes folding.
