ABER biotech
Filamentous bacteria and fungi

The Aber  technology is used routinely for monitoring filamentous bacterial cells including (eg Streptomyces Virginiae, Saccharopolyspora erythraea) and various fungi. As well as providing a cell growth profile it can provide real time data on morphological changes such as hyphal and filamentous growth, production and lysis during fermentation, which normally could have only been seen by off-line sampling and microscopy.  The graph below shows how the Aber Biomass Monitor with an annular probe can be used to monitor four consecutive Streptomyces fermentations.

A full copy of a paper desribing the use of the Biomass Monitor with a Streptomyces culture is available in our biotech download section.
